CMU welcomes Dr. Alexander Sawatsky to lead new Bachelor of Social Work degree program

Canadian Mennonite University (CMU) is excited to announce that Dr. Alexander Sawatsky will join the university as Professor and Chair of Social Work. Sawatsky's appointment starts September 1, 2023, when he will begin working on the development of CMU's new Bachelor of Social Work degree program, set to begin in Fall 2024.
Sawatsky is a highly respected teacher, practitioner, and researcher who brings a wealth of experience in social work program development, and deep relationships across the social work community. After 15 years in mental health work in the US, he joined Booth University College (BUC) in 2006 as a faculty member in social work and played a key role in developing that institution's social work program. In 2017, Sawatsky was promoted to be the Director of BUC's School of Social Work.

Canadian Mennonite University (CMU) is excited to announce the development of a new Bachelor of Social Work (BSW) degree program.
The program will deeply align with CMU's mission and commitments to reconciliation in church and society, as well as Mennonite/Anabaptist traditions of service and community development. This degree will provide students with the skills and abilities needed to help facilitate the health and well-being of vulnerable persons and communities across Canada.

Cara Isaak has been appointed to Director of Athletics at Canadian Mennonite University (CMU). Isaak will work across all athletics programs and help develop and bolster the already robust athletics programming at CMU.
Isaak has spent the past seven years as a coach of CMUs women's soccer team, and, in 2018, her experience helped lead the Blazers to their first MCAC Women's Soccer Championship since 2009.

Canadian Mennonite University (CMU) launches into the 2021-22 academic year with fall enrolment holding strong and steady. Preliminary results for all CMU programs indicate a student complement of 875 (full-time equivalent). This includes 615 FTE at the Shaftesbury main campus, and 260 FTE at the Menno Simons College campus.
At the main campus CMU has seen a one percent dip in overall student numbers, even as incoming international registration has begun to rebound from last year's pandemic impacts.

Our collective health is reliant on shared habits and responsibilities of students, staff, and faculty in this time of COVID-19 and always. As we move into the 2021-22 school year the ongoing health risks of COVID-19 remain highly concerning, even with exemplary vaccination rates in Manitoba. Thus, all CMU students, staff, and faculty are required to be vaccinated for COVID-19 in accordance with the schedule listed below. We make this announcement with recognition that many members of the CMU community already have been vaccinated against COVID-19.

David Nelson, Mia Loeppky, Matthew Pahl, and Eleanor Reimer are awarded this year's endowments: $3,500 annually up to four years, to a maximum value of $14,000 each.
CMU takes great pride in announcing the four winners of this year's Leadership Scholarships: David Nelson of Winnipeg, MB (Westgate Mennonite Collegiate); Mia Loeppky of Selkirk, MB (Lord Selkirk Regional Comprehensive Secondary School); Matthew Pahl of Morden, MB (Morden Collegiate Institute); and Eleanor Reimer of Winnipeg, MB (Sisler High School) are the winners of up to $14,000 each.

Canadian Mennonite University (CMU) is delighted to announce Sandy Koop Harder as its incoming Vice President, External, starting on June 1, 2021.
Koop Harder has diverse and demonstrated experience that positions her well in this executive role at CMU. She is Business Manager, Co-owner/Partner, and Senior Mediator at Facilitated Solutions. A Chartered Mediator with the ADR Institute of Canada, she also holds a Master of Business Administration with a specialization in leadership.

A confirmed case of COVID-19 has been identified at the CMU Shaftesbury Campus. The individual was on campus on November 3 between the hours of 2:30 PM and 4:30 PM. At this point, this is considered to be a low-risk situation.
