CMU announces 2021 Leadership Scholarship recipients

David Nelson, Mia Loeppky, Matthew Pahl, and Eleanor Reimer are awarded this year's endowments: $3,500 annually up to four years, to a maximum value of $14,000 each.

CMU takes great pride in announcing the four winners of this year's Leadership Scholarships: David Nelson of Winnipeg, MB (Westgate Mennonite Collegiate); Mia Loeppky of Selkirk, MB (Lord Selkirk Regional Comprehensive Secondary School); Matthew Pahl of Morden, MB (Morden Collegiate Institute); and Eleanor Reimer of Winnipeg, MB (Sisler High School) are the winners of up to $14,000 each.

CMU announces changes to senior administration team

CMU is pleased to announce new placements within its senior administration team with Charlie Peronto as the Dean of Student Life and John Unger as the Vice President, Administration & Finance.

Charlie Peronto – Effective July 1, Peronto will begin as Dean of Student Life. This follows exemplary work as Director, Student Life in 2020-21. Peronto previously served as CMU Residence Director for six years. Earlier work as the Pastor of Student Ministries at Steinbach MB Church and as Seniors and Indigenous Peoples Activity Coordinator with the Churchill Regional Health Authority also prepared Peronto for this role, given involvement with young adults and others coming from diverse backgrounds and faith homes.

A message from the president: preliminary planning for Fall 2021

The CMU learning community has been amazing all year in collectively honouring one another's health, safety, and well-being. I'm deeply grateful to all CMU students, staff, and faculty for sharing so much good learning, laughter, care, and generosity in the midst of all that's been awkward and hard.

For the upcoming school year starting September 2021, CMU is planning for primarily in-person classes, with some accommodation via hybrid/online formats where needed. As it has over the past 12 months, CMU is following the guidelines put forth by Manitoba Health.

Dual winners mark the 16th annual Verna Mae Janzen Music Competition

For the past 16 years, the CMU School of Music hosts the Verna Mae Janzen Music Competition for music students capable of performing at a high skill level. It is a time, as adjudicator Henrietta Schellenberg puts it, "of comradery and competition for music students, a chance to bring their art to the public, a jewel in the life of the musical calendar at CMU."

CMU launches new centre for career, vocation

At a time when so much of society and work is being "cracked open" by the pandemic, a liberal arts education is more important than ever.

That's the view of Christine Kampen Robinson, director of the new Centre for Career and Vocation at Canadian Mennonite University.

"What work looks like in the future is being redefined," she said. "We don't yet know what it will look like."
