Step inside the doors of Canadian Mennonite University's (CMU) library, and you'll find yourself at the institution's heart. Each shelf holds stories of the past, present, and future, ready to be explored. The CMU library is more than just a resource; it's a place where curiosity thrives and community bonds are strengthened.
Over 135,000 items are in CMU's collection, but a significantly smaller subset sits in the special collections room. It's a place where Professor of English Paul Dyck says the utility and value of printed books will remain eternal.

Dr. Kirit Patel of Menno Simons College (MSC) with Dr. Aruna Kumar Malik of Gujarat National Law University in India and Dr. Alan Diduck of the University of Winnipeg launched a new book, Advancing Environmental Justice for Marginalized Communities in India: Progress, Challenges and Opportunities, in September 2021. It features many contributions from MSC students, exploring environmental justice and social equity in India.

The spring of 2021 saw the release of Germinating Conversations: Stories from Sustained Rural-Urban Dialogue on Food, Faith, Farming, and the Land. Edited by Marta Bunnett Wiebe, a recent graduate of Canadian Mennonite University (CMU) and current Peace and Advocacy Coordinator at MCC Manitoba, and collaboratively published by CMU, A Rocha, Canadian Foodgrains Bank, and Mennonite Central Committee Manitoba, the book emerged out of over a 10-year-long period of class discussions, listening events, and public dialogues between urban and rural farmers in Manitoba. The book surfaces out of these various initiatives producing germinating conversations centred around reconciliation, food production, and ecological crisis. With over 30 participants of both rural and urban contexts, the book attempts to mirror the kind of dialogue, and most importantly, the kind of listening that is required for real conversations to take place.

Having battled chronic illness all her life, Alexander wants to see herself in her heroes. Her new book Super Sick chronicles her search for sick characters in pop culture, and the personal impact of that quest.
"Superheroes aren't sick. They don't lie in bed all day because they're in too much pain to get up. They don't face the challenges of the chronically ill, which include socially inappropriate topics like mental illness, sex, and diarrhea. The latter, of course, would be exponentially worse in a spandex suit."

The gaping mouth of a giant fish stretches open across the cover of Chris Huebner's new book, Suffering the Truth: Occasional Sermons and Reflections. The image of a Polish church pulpit in the shape of the giant fish from the biblical story of Jonah represents the difficult undertaking of speaking on behalf of God through preaching.

The Mennonite Historical Society of Canada is utilizing the resources of Mennonite universities in Canada to research and write an updated history book on the history of Mennonites in Canada from 1970-2020. They have invited Conrad Grebel University College (Grebel) Archivist-Librarian Laureen Harder-Gissing to co-author this book with Brian Froese, Associate Professor of History at Canadian Mennonite University (CMU).

The CMU library is delighted to announce that it has recently acquired a 1685 edition of Martyrs Mirror. The book will be housed in CMU's special collections rare book room and made accessible to students and faculty forthwith. Formal protocols for handling the book will be posted at the library soon.
Students, faculty, and staff across disciplines attended Thursday's reveal. Paul Doerksen, Associate Professor of Theology and Anabaptist studies, says this new acquisition will be a major asset to his students, as Martyrs Mirror features in at least three of his regular courses. English professor Paul Dyck says a number of students from his beloved "History of the Book" course, which focusses on manuscript history and book production methods before and after Gutenberg, was also on-hand for the unveiling.

A new book published by the Canadian Mennonite University (CMU) Press presents a detailed account of the history of Westgate Mennonite Collegiate, a private Mennonite high school in Winnipeg.
Necessary Idealism: A History of Westgate Mennonite Collegiate is written by Dr. Janis Thiessen, Associate Professor of History at the University of Winnipeg.

SIMCOE, ON — The public is invited to a celebration for a new book detailing the life of Dr. Vera Good, a pioneering educator and television producer from Waterloo County.
Good and author Nancy Silcox will be on hand to launch The Exceptional Vera Good: A Life Beyond the Polka Dot Door on Sunday, December 10, 2017 at 2:00 PM. The launch will take place in the party room at Norview Lodge Retirement Home in Simcoe, ON (44 Rob Blake Way). All are welcome to attend.

Nearly 10 years in the making, the official book launch of Along the Road to Freedom – Mennonite women of courage and faith featuring the paintings of artist Ray Dirks will take place at the Canadian Museum for Human Rights on Wednesday, November 8 at 7:00 PM. All are invited, and admission is free.
