CMU welcomes new faculty to start 2025/26 academic year
CMU enters a new academic year with both excitement and gratitude, welcoming five new faculty members whose expertise spans music, biology, social work, psychology, and chemistry.
Together, these teaching appointments highlight the university's ongoing commitment to interdisciplinary teaching, faith-integrated scholarship, and nurturing students in ways that prepare them to engage the world with curiosity, compassion, and purpose.
CMU psychology professor awarded grant for dementia research
Heather Campbell-Enns, PhD, has received a $200,000 grant co-funded by the Alzheimer Society of Canada and Research Manitoba for her work in dementia research. It will specifically support her current project, A Pilot Study of Ethnocultural Approaches to Family-Provided Dementia Care, which explores how caregiving is shaped by cultural knowledge, traditions, and intergenerational experiences.
Lynda Loewen | 2024 Kay and Lorne Dick Teaching Excellence Award Recipient (video)
Lynda Loewen has worked at CMU for over 15 years, first as a sessional instructor and today as Teaching Assistant Professor of Psychology. In the 2024/25 academic year, she taught Interpersonal Communication, Counseling Theories, Counseling Techniques, and Trauma and Resilience. She also works as a therapist, her first vocation, which she has been doing since 2008.

Dr. Heather Campbell-Enns is Associate Professor of Psychology. She has taught at CMU since 2019.
What are you teaching right now that you're most excited about?
"Identity and Intersectionality." That class has been just a pleasure. We're asking questions of identity, looking at concepts and theories of identity. Students are really wrestling with, "Who am I?" Questions around how stable is my identity and how much am I changing and who am I becoming? It's such a beautiful experience, with these students who come into this course at the end of their degree, thinking about: who have I become in this program at CMU? They come into the class with a lot of curiosity, and I see them go through this uncomfortable time of being faced with these questions. I've taught it a few times, and by the end of the course they're grounded into knowing something about themselves and accepting that they are becoming someone and that it's a lifelong journey. That has been really beautiful—including students talking about who am I in relation to the church and the God I've always known and who I am still knowing. It's been impactful for me to witness that with students because it's a journey we're all still on and to have them share that with me is pretty remarkable.

Alumni Profile: Cecilly Hildebrand, Executive Director of Candace House
Cecilly Hildebrand graduated from CMU in 2012 with a BA in Psychology. Today, at just 31, she is completing an MA in Social Work and serves full-time as Executive Director of Candace House, a daytime refuge in Winnipeg for families navigating the court system after the criminal death of a loved one.

What do you love about your work here?
CMU psychology professor awarded $100,000 research grant
Dr. Heather Campbell-Enns, Assistant Professor of Psychology at Canadian Mennonite University (CMU), received a one-year grant worth $100,000 through the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR).
Campbell-Enns will use the grant for a research project titled Best Practices: Transitions from Hospital to Community-Based Settings for Rural and Remote Persons with Dementia.
