2018 CMU Distinguished Alumni Story | Brian Dyck (video)

Brian Dyck (CMBC '83) of Winnipeg, MB is the Migration and Resettlement Coordinator at Mennonite Central Committee (MCC) Canada. Before that, he was Refugee Assistance Program Coordinator at MCC Manitoba. His primary work at MCC has been helping churches think about refugee sponsorship and the broader issues around forced displacement. He is also chair of the Canadian National Refugee Sponsorship Agreement Holder Association, a national organization that meets with the Canadian government to help form Canadian policy on refugee resettlement. Dyck was a missionary in South Africa from 1999 to 2005, where he did leadership development and HIV/AIDS education among the African Indigenous Churches in the Eastern Cape Province.

Learning power and vulnerability at CSOP

For the first time in my degree, I took a class purely on a recommendation, and man alive am I glad I decided to.

After some conversation and discernment, my academic advisor told me that she thought I should take Arts Based Approaches to Social Change from the Canadian School of Peacebuilding (CSOP). I liked the idea of getting some credits out of the way and having an excuse to come back to Winnipeg mid-summer. The course sounded mildly interesting, and though not related to the direction my Interdisciplinary degree seemed to be taking, I decided to just do it.

Bachelor of Science degree at CMU: Fall 2018

Starting in Fall 2018, Canadian Mennonite University (CMU) will offer four new Bachelor of Science (BSc) degree options as part of its academic programming—General (three-year), Mathematics (three-year), Biology (four-year), and Mathematics (four-year).

The BA Mathematics degrees will remain, with no change, serving students looking for more flexible elective space. The addition of a BSc to CMU's offerings is not only a response to growing demand, but is a natural fit, given the university's mission.

2018 CSOP Lecture - A Transformative Spirituality for Peacebuilding

The World Council of Churches (WCC) project, Pilgrimage of Peace and Justice, calls on churches everywhere to walk together, to view their common life and journey of faith, as part of the pilgrimage of justice and peace, and to join together with others in celebrating life and to take steps toward transforming injustices and violence.

Dr. Fernando Enns is Professor of Theology and Ethics at Vrije Universiteit (Free University) in Amsterdam, Netherlands, and Director of the Institute of Peace Church Theology at the University of Hamburg, Germany. Enns is a WCC central committee member, and is the co-moderator of the pilgrimage reference group and of its theological study group.
