This month on Sunday@CMU, we are hearing from Arlyn Friesen Epp. He performs several monologues and dramatic retellings of scripture, which explore naming and dismantling the walls of privilege that separate people. Arlyn is the Director of CommonWord, a Bookstore and Resource Centre jointly operated by CMU and Mennonite Church Canada.

CMU celebrates Class of 2020

Canadian Mennonite University celebrated the achievements of its Class of 2020 at an outdoor convocation ceremony on August 26. Ninety-one students completed their degrees in April, receiving their diplomas in the mail, and 58 of them gathered on CMU's grounds to mark the occasion.

Graduations all over the world looked drastically different this year due to the COVID-19 pandemic. At CMU it was faculty decked out in full regalia and sitting in lawn chairs, crickets chirping during speeches, and friends waving to each other across the field.

Due to COVID-19, CMU Outtatown Discipleship School discontinued indefinitely

With lament, CMU announces its decision to discontinue the operations of the Outtatown Discipleship School indefinitely due to the uncertainties perpetuated by the global COVID-19 pandemic.

The evolving scope and effect of the global pandemic and the unpredictability of future conditions have clarified CMU's need to discontinue the Outtatown program. The university cannot anticipate how the ground will settle within church and society, or what kind of program may be feasible and desirable to students in the aftermath of the pandemic. We acknowledge the impact of this decision for CMU, the church, the many students whose lives have been profoundly shaped by Outtatown, and the cherished partners in Canada and Guatemala—many of whom bear a disproportionate burden of these very challenging times.

Charlie Peronto: CMU's Director of Student Life

Get to know CMU’s new Director of Student Life

Charlie Peronto became CMU's Director of Student Life on July 1, following the retirement of long-time Dean of Student Life, Marilyn Peters Kliewer. Peronto began working at CMU in 2014 as Residence Director and quickly became an essential part of the campus community.

Peronto grew up in southern Wisconsin, but moved to Manitoba when he got married. Before starting at CMU, he was a pastor at a Mennonite Brethren church and lived in Churchill for several years, working in community health, construction, and with the airline. He began studying at CMU's Graduate School of Theology and Ministry in 2013 and continued his studies part-time over the six years he worked as Residence Director, graduating last spring with a Master of Arts in Theology. He lives in Winnipeg with his wife Jocelyn and their dog, Norman. They attend FaithWorks.
