CMU plans for the 2021 winter term: what and why

Dear CMU students, staff, faculty, and sessional instructors,
In 2014 the CMU graduating class chose the following verse as a focus of its Convocation Celebration: What are you doing here? (1 Kings 19:13). It's a good question, good in the sense that it means more than one thing. The word "what" really does directly mean "what are you doing"; the question also means "why." Thus, "What are you doing here?" asks both, "what are you doing?" and "why are you here?".

When Amelia Pahl envisioned how her practicum would go, she didn't expect she would be dissecting an 18th century prayer book and seeing how it could be used for worship today. Yet this was one of the many tasks she took on this summer.
Pahl, a fourth-year CMU student doing an interdisciplinary degree in Religion and Narrative, did a three-month practicum placement with Together in Worship, a website of free Anabaptist worship resources that was launched this fall.

Lauren Harms (BA '15, General Social Sciences) wears two hats, that of a pastor and of an art therapist, which are taken on and off in the same room in the same Calgary apartment every day over Zoom. Founder of "Lily Inspired", an art therapy practice that focuses on individual and group art therapy as well as expressive arts workshops, Harms combines the creative process and psychotherapy, enabling her clients to explore their healing through colour, shape, and form.

After moving to Canada with his family from Vietnam at the age of nine, Binh Nguyen has always had ambitious hoop dreams. One of his goals is to finish his five years of university basketball eligibility with an undergraduate degree. However, today the six-foot guard has even bigger dreams that bring him back to Asia. An opportunity awaits for Nguyen to start a professional basketball career in his native Vietnam, as well as the chance to the country on the national men's basketball team.
The popularity of basketball is rapidly stretching across the globe, and nowhere more than Southeast Asia where developed leagues thrive in The Philippines, Indonesia, and Thailand. Since 2016, professional basketball has been a slam dunk in Vietnam.

A confirmed case of COVID-19 has been identified at the CMU Shaftesbury Campus. The individual was on campus on November 3 between the hours of 2:30 PM and 4:30 PM. At this point, this is considered to be a low-risk situation.
