CMU appoints new VP, Student Life and Campus Operations

Canadian Mennonite University (CMU) is pleased to announce the appointment of Charlie Peronto to the position of Vice-President, Student Life and Campus Operations commencing April 1, 2025.
Peronto began his CMU career in 2014, serving first as Residence Director for six years, then as Director of Student Life (2020) and Dean of Student Life (2021).
"For the past five years, Charlie has offered exemplary leadership to Student Life, providing visionary and effective connections across co-curricular and academic dimensions of CMU education," said CMU President Cheryl Pauls. "He knows the university campus really well and so too the ways students, staff, and faculty flow through it, and he is well suited to the additional portfolio of campus operations including attending to the overall health of life on campus and campus infrastructure."
Peronto will take on the responsibilities of overseeing campus food services and operations departments—including maintenance, hosting, and facilities—in addition to his preexisting role leading the Student Life team.
"CMU has always prioritized the student experience. We want our campus buildings and our food services to best serve student needs and desires, and this new position ensures that we'll continue to do that in the future," he said.
"I love working at CMU because it's a place that truly values the student journey in education. CMU views and prioritizes student learning in all of its contexts—whether that's in the classroom, in the residence, as a commuter, on a work-integrated learning placement," Peronto said. "My new job allows me to continue to partner with students and see these areas—our buildings, our food services—as learning opportunities for students."
Prior to CMU, Peronto worked as the Pastor of Student Ministries at Steinbach Mennonite Brethren Church and as Seniors and Indigenous Peoples Activity Coordinator with the Churchill Regional Health Authority. He holds a Master of Arts in Theological Studies from CMU.
