Ukraine and armed conflicts: Pursuing justice and peace

Mennonite Central Committee (MCC) and the United Nations (UN) held a student seminar in New York City this past November called, "Ukraine and Armed Conflicts: Pursuing Justice and Peace." This event was created for undergraduate students in Peace and Conflict Transformation Studies or other related fields. As two CMU students who took part in this seminar, we have written a reflection on the event.

CMU supports and welcomes international students affected by conflict

Canadian Mennonite University (CMU) is providing financial and other support to students displaced by violence in their home countries and has extended special considerations to Ukrainian students and alumni who are displaced after Russia's attack on their homeland.

By way of collaboration and partnership with church and humanitarian aid groups, CMU has a history of making post-secondary education available to sponsored international/refugee students. CMU is actively exploring new opportunities to assist post-secondary students coming to Canada from war-affected areas, including Ukraine.

As the world faces the brazen attack on Ukraine, the learning community of Canadian Mennonite University aches for lives lost and torn apart by horrific violence. We walk alongside current CMU students from Ukraine, their families who are suffering greatly, and also our alumni living in Ukraine.

CMU joins with all who denounce Russian acts of violence against Ukraine. We stand in solidarity with the people of Ukraine and all those with ties to the region. Together we seek dignity and peace within the sovereign state of Ukraine.
