Five refugee resettlement experts with experience in Canada's past and present programs formed a panel to discuss and examine the past, present, and future of Canada's refugee resettlement efforts.
"Canada has a long history of resettling refugees," says Dr. Stephanie Stobbe, Associate Professor of Conflict Resolution Studies at Menno Simons College, who moderated the panel. "Today there are 17.2 million refugees under UNHCR's mandate, and over 1 million refugees are in need of resettlement. We want to explore what the future of Canada's resettlement program might look like."

Canadian Mennonite University is pleased to announce the 13th Verna Mae Janzen Music Competition, which will take place on Thursday, February 15.
The annual event features students from the CMU School of Music competing for three cash prizes. The first-place winner is awarded $700, the second-place winner receives $500, and the third-place winner takes home $300.

Rick Lindroth (PhD, University of Illinois-Urbana) is a Vilas Distinguished Achievement Professor of Ecology and recent Associate Dean for Research at the University of Wisconsin-Madison (USA). His research focuses on evolutionary ecology and global change ecology in forest ecosystems. He and his students have published ~200 peer-reviewed scientific articles and book chapters. Lindroth has been a Fulbright Fellow and is a Fellow of the Ecological Society of America, the Entomological Society of America, and the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS).

One of Canada's newest senators is an alumnus of CMU's Canadian School of Peacebuilding.
Dr. Mary Jane McCallum, who was appointed late last year as one of two independent senators to fill vacancies in the Senate, studied at the CSOP in 2016 and 2017.

A Mennonite pastor hopes that the legalization of cannabis will allow the church to open up “theological discussions” about all sorts of substance use.
The legalization of cannabis gives the church an opportunity to discuss the New Testament emphasis on healing and reconciliation as God’s response to brokenness, said Erin Morash, pastor at two rural Mennonite churches located two hours southwest of Winnipeg.

A fundraising campaign to build Marpeck Commons, the library, learning commons, and bridge at Canadian Mennonite University (CMU), has reached its goal. “It is our great pleasure and gratitude to announce that the CONNECT Campaign goal of $14.4 million has been achieved in gifts and commitments,” CMU President Dr. Cheryl Pauls said during a speech she gave on Saturday, November 25 at the university’s annual Christmas concert.
