CPHR Manitoba welcomes CMU’s Redekop School of Business program to Post-Secondary Institution Accreditation Program
Thursday, June 25, 2026 @ 9:40 AM | News Releases
CMU is pleased to announce accreditation of a major in Human Resource Management and Conflict Resolution (HRMCR).
HRMCR is the 13th post-secondary program to earn accreditation as part of CPHR Manitoba's Post-Secondary Institution (PSI) Accreditation Program.
"It's exciting to have another accredited program that allows students the opportunity to fast-track pursuing the CPHR designation upon graduation. Graduates from accredited programs are workforce ready and are needed now more than ever in Manitoba workplaces" said Ron Gauthier, CEO of CPHR Manitoba.
CMU already offers an undergraduate Bachelor of Business Administration through the Redekop School of Business, where graduates develop the knowledge, skills, and abilities required for professional practice in diverse business contexts. With the major in HRMCR, the Redekop School of Business continues to build upon its core business programming, while nurturing the capacities essential to effective people management.
"The HRMCR major is a natural extension of CMU's educational philosophy, emphasizing responsible leadership, ethical professional practice, collaboration in decision-making and conflict resolution, and critical reflection on the social and organizational impacts of business," says James Magnus-Johnston, Director of the Redekop School of Business.
This four-year program will be ready for the upcoming Fall 2026 semester, bringing students into a heavily interdependent course framework that emphasizes groupwork, case studies, and experiential learning to equip students with the skills needed for realistic scenarios in modern business environments. Additionally, graduates from the HRMCR major who completed the program within the past five years may be eligible to take advantage of the new accreditation agreement with CPHR Manitoba.
The curriculum aligns directly with the CPHR Framework across its nine HR Specific Competency Areas, bringing graduates one step closer to receiving their professional designation upon graduation as they may be eligible to waive writing the National Knowledge Exam (NKE), a required step for many pursuing the CPHR designation.
The CPHR designation is highly respected by employers, and with the HR profession now officially self-regulated in Manitoba, it is an even more powerful symbol of professionalism and trust. Self-regulation reflects the growing recognition of HR's impact and importance in today's workplaces, and being part of it puts you in a strong position as you advance your career. This designation represents a commitment to a national standard of excellence, sets a benchmark for the practice of effective human resources and emphasizes the strategic role of human resource management in business.
What makes CMU's HRMRC major unique is the integration of conflict resolution into the program.
"CMU students graduate with genuine mediation and negotiation capabilities alongside their HR competencies," Magnus-Johnston says.
"CMU's values-based approach emphasizes the ethical dimensions of HR practice, like inclusion, wellness, and organizational culture—all of which are thematic throughout CMU's course offerings and grounded in tradition and institutional history."
The university's small classes and liberal arts environment mean students work closely with faculty, engage across disciplines, and gain applied experience. Graduates will enter the profession with both the ethical grounding and the technical proficiency that employers expect.
To be eligible for the NKE waiver, graduates of the Bachelor of Business Administration – Human Resource and Conflict Resolution program will need to have achieved a minimum GPA of 3.0 and apply within five years of graduation.
