CMU professor selected for major financial literacy research advisory group

Jerry Buckland, PhD, CMU Professor of Economics and International Development Studies, was recently selected to be a member of the International Network on Financial Education (INFE), a leading institution in the field of financial literacy and education.

The INFE is a project of the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), an organization with headquarters in Paris and approximately 70 member countries, which works to measure and improve financial literacy around the world. Buckland says, "The OECD's INFE has been a pioneer in promoting financial education internationally."

Province of Manitoba approves new Bachelor of Education at CMU

CMU has received approval from the Province of Manitoba to launch a new condensed 16-month Bachelor of Education after-degree program. The first cohort will begin August 2026 and promises to prepare confident, community-minded teachers ready to enter classrooms across Manitoba and beyond.

The program features 28 weeks of practicum strategically scheduled throughout the school year, including longer placements in rural and northern communities. A co-teaching model pairs candidates with experienced mentor teachers, ensuring they can immediately apply classroom strategies and pedagogical skills.

Lynda Loewen | 2024 Kay and Lorne Dick Teaching Excellence Award Recipient (video)

Lynda Loewen has worked at CMU for over 15 years, first as a sessional instructor and today as Teaching Assistant Professor of Psychology. She has also worked as a therapist, her first vocation, since 2008. She and Dr. John Brubacher, Associate Professor of Biology, are co-recipients of the 2024 Kay and Lorne Dick Teaching Excellence Award.

The award, established in 2022, is granted annually to two faculty members who best exemplify CMU's commitment to excellent teaching.
