$1,000 scholarship announced for all students coming from Anabaptist schools

CMU already offers more than 300 unique scholarships, awards, and bursaries to the student population, and now, as part of the university's intention to make education accessible and affordable, CMU is now offering an automatic $1,000 entrance award for students who have graduated from Mennonite high schools.

This eligibility extends to American as well as Canadian high schools.

Eligible students must be enrolled as a full-time student, be within five years of graduating high school, and have not completed more than 9 credit hours at any post-secondary institution.

This award applies to the current CMU scholarship limit; students of this award can receive up to the maximum limit.

By further extending accessibility to students already grounded in Mennonite education, The Mennonite High School Award reflects CMU's commitment to the values of peace, justice, and service, all rooted in the Anabaptist Mennonite tradition.

"This award is a testament to our commitment as Mennonite schools to partner together in the ongoing training of leaders in faith, service, and peace-making," Ryan Wood, President and CEO of RJC High School, says.

"It is an investment in the future of our church and world and builds on the work that has begun in our Mennonite high schools and ensures its continuation in our students' post-secondary pursuits."

At CMU, students engage deeply with these values, learning to interrupt and address systemic inequities through anti-oppressive and purposefully inclusive environments. In times of onerous social and political instability, CMU, a small Canadian university, emphasizes relationships and kinship, with a focus on justice for the economically and socially marginalized.

"[This award] is an investment in the future of our church and world and builds on the work that has begun in our Mennonite high schools," Wood says.

CMU provides scholarships, awards, and bursaries to approximately 50% of the student body each year, including opportunities for first-generation students, those who require accessibility needs, Indigenous students, and international students, among others.

A transformative education extends beyond the classroom. It combines academic excellence with a meaningful community. As such, CMU also offers free dorm to all first-year undergraduate students.

This first-of-its-kind program in Canada will save students roughly $3,000 in on-campus living fees and applies to all domestic and international students. Combined with the Mennonite High School Award, that total nears almost $4,000 in savings for new undergraduate students.

"I am so pleased to hear of CMU's decision to grant entrance awards for grads of Mennonite high schools," Wood says. "I applaud the vision and leadership to launch this award and know that it will make a difference in the lives of students."
