Canadian Mennonite University (CMU) is delighted to report that Gloria Rengifo has been appointed Vice-President, Finance commencing April 14, 2025.
Rengifo brings to CMU a wealth of experience and connections from across the financial sphere, including operational and charitable initiatives. For the last 20 years, she has helped guide NGOs of varying sizes in Canada and internationally.
"With delight CMU has welcomed Gloria Rengifo as VP, Finance. Gloria brings sound acumen to organizational and financial stewardship, clarity and warmth to team building, and a generous, creative presence within the whole of the mission and education entrusted to CMU," said CMU President Cheryl Pauls.
Rengifo was previously Director of Finance at Abundance Canada, a public foundation helping people plan and manage charitable giving. Prior to that, she was Director of Finance and Operations at Immigrant and Refugee Community Organization of Manitoba (IRCOM) and Director of Finance and Administration at the International Centre for Tropical Agriculture (CIAT), a global organization fighting poverty in the tropics. She holds a master's in finance from ISEAD, an institute of Universidad Complutense de Madrid in Spain.
She and her family migrated to Canada from Colombia in 2019, after which she worked in the field of international business, serving to confirm her passion for the not-for-profit and charitable sector. "It's what I'm really passionate about and drives me and really fulfills me," she said.
When the CMU opportunity arose, Rengifo was "very excited to come to a place where you can see the work in action." Although she is new to the university context, there are many similarities to her work with CIAT, where she worked with researchers and scientists.
"What drew me here was the work that CMU does and how we are contributing to changing students' lives," she said. "And it's not only students—we also change staff and faculty's lives. I've heard very good comments about the workplace and the environment here."
Rengifo will lead the CMU finance team, with her vision of "ensuring a healthy financial position and environment for the university" and "being stewards of the funds that are entrusted to us," whether that be donations, grants, student tuition, or other endowments. Like other senior administrative staff, she will also be responsible for reporting to and advising the President's office, serving on the executive team, and providing leadership and input across the university.
